Recently, we just finished our drawings in Art class. Here are my pieces! The Clock is my pen drawing, the door knob is my charcoal drawing, and the pencil drawing of the high heel and wooden board is my still life drawing! Also, the most helpful warm up we did during the unit was the Pen Cubes, in the slideshow above. This was a good warm up because it showed us how to use new techniques in our drawings, like stippling, hatching and cross hatching, and random line.
We also learned about composition and value in art. Composition is when you make a crop a piece so that it's visually the most pleasing to the viewer. This can be done with different techniques, like the rule of thirds, or the golden spiral to get the viewer to pay attention to the most important aspects of the piece. Value is when you draw and paint lighter or darker to create shadows, or value, in a piece. A pro to using pen is that it looks nicer and more professional than pencil, but a con is that you can't erase your mistake. A pro of charcoal is that it gives the piece texture, but it can also get everywhere and is kind of messy. A pro of pencil is that you can erase your mistakes, but it doesn't look as special, everyone uses pencils for art. Thanks for reflecting on my drawing unit with me!

On the Colossal site, I found an artist that truly inspires me. His name is Alexey Kondakov. Some of his pieces speak to me, and I'm going to share them with you. I find this piece especially cool and inspiring because I myself like magical realism in art. Magical realism is when there is something fantastical in a real world or modern setting. This ancient Roman sleeping in what looks like a chain restaurant is combining both of these worlds together effortlessly is really cool and inspiring. In conclusion, I love how Kondakov uses magical realism in his art. It really inspires me to make pieces like this of my own. |
